For that he is often referred to as the grandfather of Norwegian craft brewing.
Later his many flights to Japan got him in touch with sake, and in 2010 he started brewing sake with Nøgne Ø as the first in Europe.

Matej Mešťánek

Head Brewer

Matej Mešťánek

Slovak food technologist, who, thanks to his grandfather, also a fermentation technologist, practically grew up in a brewery, malt house and wine-growing environment. These aspects also played a role in his choice of his field of study at the university, and, as much as he enjoys everything related to the fermentation industry, he studied two engineering fields at Mendel University in Brno. Specifically, Viticulture and Food Technology, specializing in brewing and malting. He continues to work as a doctoral student at the same university, and when he is not brewing in our brewery, he is engaged in research and teaches the art of brewing at his alma mater. In the past, he worked at the Sessler, Urpiner, Magistr breweries or as a guest brewer at the Thirsty Souls brewery in North Carolina. He is also behind the launch of the craft beer project in the Slovak stores of Kaufland.
